Krista Tippett is the host of a very interesting and deep Peabody award winning radio show and podcast named On Being. I was listening this week to an episode that really caught my attention. More than a few months ago social media in a general sense responded in snark at the idea of Pope Francis appointing a new director of the observatory in the Vatican. But in point of fact Pope Francis did appoint someone, and he appointed Br. Guy Consolmagno. In this interview, Krista Tippett learns more about the Vatican Observatory from both Br. Guy Consolmagno as well as former director Fr. George Conye.
Really though the fundamental question begins in our minds, isn't science and religion at odds? Those who've heard me teach know my passion for science as well as my passion for serving and loving God. I've never heard a better discussion on just what science is, what it means to believe in God, and those deep questions we all knew we wanted answers to but never really had a chance to ask or vocalize. Though this recording doesn't represent ipso facto clear and precise theological statements, this podcast episode is a great place to enter into the reflection of the subject at hand.
