So here it is! The first blog post on our new parish website! My first hope is that the parishioners at All Saints will find this website helpful for much more then Mass Times or online bulletins. Among the greatest exhortations of the Second Vatican Council was the necessity for regular catechists to take place for adults in the parish setting. Often times in practice Adults are left entirely out of the picture with a majority of parish resources focused on youth discipleship and catechesis. The emphasis here is not a discussion of either/or but a reflection on what the Council Fathers wished, and that is for entire parish catechesis. That is to say not just youth or adult but both/and!
We aren't 'finished' at confirmation and we certainly don't 'know it all' by age 80. Formation is a process in which we mold our hearts after Jesus which is a lifelong task. Jesus didn't simply intend for us to worship God at Holy Mass and live the rest of our days in indifference. But to live with passion, curiosity, reason, and unmistakable compassion. As the Angel in Revelation chapter 3 says, "I will spit the lukewarm from my mouth." A passion for Christ and a passion for the common good brings a person to a continual broadening of horizons and study. Realizing all the while that spiritual stagnation, spiritual indifference, is death. Often times there will be choices to be made about how time is spent, there will always be less time for things that are important, which is why it becomes ever more critical to prioritize the things of this world as well as the things that will continue into the next. Keeping this in mind, brings me to my next point which is why the new website and blog?
I understand as much as any that schedules are ever busier and it is my intention to innovate and make formation easier. Now this website in no way is a replacement for community, but this is one place no matter time of day or location that parishioners can see whats going on, check out the latest resources and be connected as a parish online.
So, this blog for instance is for those who want practical ways to take their faith to the next level, as well as the occasional reflection. I haven't had whole lot of time to prepare this week's post simply because it's taken a lot to get this website up and running but I'm excited to kick this off and get feedback. Also, stay tuned I will soon be coming out with a new series of adult formation activities by the end of this month.
